Dietitian
An Aged Care Dietitian plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of elderly residents by providing expert nutritional advice and support within care settings.
This position involves assessing the dietary needs of residents, developing personalised nutrition plans, and ensuring that meal services meet the highest standards of nutrition and quality.
The dietitian begins by conducting comprehensive assessments of each resident’s dietary needs, considering factors such as medical conditions, allergies, dietary preferences, and nutritional requirements.
Based on these assessments, they create individualised nutrition plans designed to support residents’ health, manage chronic conditions, and enhance overall well-being.
A key aspect of the role is to collaborate with chefs and food service teams to design and oversee meal programs that adhere to the nutrition plans. This includes ensuring that meals are not only nutritionally balanced but also appealing and tailored to residents’ preferences.
The dietitian provides guidance on food preparation techniques and monitors the quality of meals served to ensure they meet dietary guidelines and residents’ needs.
In addition to meal planning, the dietitian educates residents, families, and staff about nutrition-related topics, such as managing diabetes, heart health, and weight management. They offer practical advice on dietary choices and adjustments to support health goals.
The dietitian also works closely with other healthcare professionals to integrate nutritional care into residents’ overall health plans. They monitor residents’ progress, adjust nutrition plans as needed, and maintain accurate records of dietary assessments and interventions.
